Silver Spring, MD — Wild at Heart, Series 1, a hit, ongoing British drama series set in the African wilderness, makes its debut on DVD from Acorn Media on February 10, 2009. Combining the family drama of The Brady Bunch with the pastoral appeal of All Creatures Great and Small, this heartwarming series follows a newly blended family finding common ground in the African bush.
The Trevanions are middle-aged newlyweds who fell in love after Danny (Stephen Tompkinson, Prime Suspect: The Final Act) lost his first wife to cancer and Sarah (Amanda Holden, The Grimleys) lost hers “to a nineteen-year-old.” But all is not well in the new household. Trouble simmers between Sarah and stepdaughter Rosie, still hurting from her mother’s death. Danny, a suburban vet, has a better way with animals than he does with stepson Evan. And Sarah’s daughter Olivia, the peacemaking third child, insists on calling Danny “Mr. Trevanion.”
Tired of treating pampered pets and seeking escape from domestic woes, Danny takes the family on a trip to Africa. Vacation turns to vocation, however, when they decide to restore a rundown game reserve deep in the African bush. As the Trevanions help the wild animals around them, they begin to heal their own wounds as well.
The six-episode first season features an atmospheric soundtrack, animals in the wild and breathtaking African vistas. It was filmed on location at the Pilanesburg game reserve near Johannesburg, South Africa.
Wild at Heart premiered on British television in early 2006, and the series is now in its fourth season; set to air in 2009. It was also broadcast on BBC America in 2007. An American remake, Life is Wild, aired on the CW network in 2007.
