Silver Spring, MD — Still going strong after more than a quarter of a century, Taggart, Set 3 debuts on DVD on September 21, 2010 from British TV on DVD specialist Acorn Media. Featuring eight contemporary episodes, the smash hit series follows a team of Glasgow detectives taking on the city’s worst cases—from blackmail to murder. Witty scripts and black humor round out this gritty police procedural, lending it universal appeal and helping it become the world’s longest continually running police drama series. Available to U.S. audiences for the first time with its DVD release, Set 3 includes episodes that aired in the U.K. in 2005 (DVD 4-Disc Set, $59.99, www.AcornOnline.com).
This award-winning television drama follows four cops on the streets of one of Britain’s most menacing cities. Detectives Burke, Ross, Reid, and Fraser make a formidable team against Glasgow’s criminals, from drug dealers and blackmailers to gangsters and pimps. Armed with determination and intuition, they pursue justice in an often dark and dangerous world. The series stars Alex Norton (Patriot Games), John Michie (To Walk with Lions), Blythe Duff, and Colin McCredie as the team of detectives.
Episodes in Set 3: Mind Over Matter, Cause and Effect, A Taste of Money, A Death Foretold, Do or Die, Running Out of Time, Cause to Kill, Dead Man Walking
Set 3 guest stars include Ashley Jensen (Ugly Betty, Extras), Stella Gonet (The House of Eliott), and Julian Wadham (The Madness of King George)
Taggart premiered in the U.K. in September 1983 led by actor Mark McManus as DCI Jim Taggart. After McManus died in 1994, the series continued with James McPherson as DCI Mike Jardine, and now Alex Norton leads the team as DCI Matt Burke (2002-Present). The series airs on ITV in the U.K. Taggart was nominated for best drama at the BAFTA Scotland Awards (2005) and won their Special Contribution to Scottish Broadcasting Award (2006).
