Silver Spring, MD — Acorn Media announces the March 24, 2009 DVD debut of Taggart, Set 1, featuring seven contemporary episodes of Britain’s longest-running police drama series. Following a team of Glasgow detectives, the smash hit series is celebrating its 25th year in 2008 and still consistently ranking in the top 10 dramas in the U.K. Set 1 includes the complete 19th season of the series, which aired in the U.K. in 2002.
As gritty as the city in which it takes place, Taggart pits a hard-bitten team of detectives against the worst that the mean streets of Glasgow can throw at them. Alex Norton (Patriot Games), John Michie (To Walk with Lions), Blythe Duff, and Colin McCredie play cops as hard as the crooks they pursue. Together, the formidable foursome takes on everything that the mean streets of Glasgow throw its way. This action-packed drama series revels in its seamy Scottish setting, while its edgy mysteries, intriguing characters, and dark sense of humor give it a universal appeal.
Taggart premiered in the U.K. in September 1983 led by actor Mark McManus as DCI Jim Taggart. After McManus died in 1994, the series continued with James McPherson as DCI Mike Jardine, and now Alex Norton leads the team as DCI Matt Burke (2002-Present). The series airs on ITV in the U.K.
