Starring Jonathan Pryce as the iconic detective in a new BBC family drama
SILVER SPRING, MD; July 10, 2007 —Acorn Media announces the September 4, 2007 home video debut of Sherlock Holmes and the Baker Street Irregulars, starring Jonathan Pryce (Pirates of the Caribbean, Brazil) as Sherlock Holmes in this gripping original mystery produced for the BBC.
Kids are disappearing. Policemen are being poisoned. Sherlock Holmes is under house arrest, falsely accused of crimes he didn’t commit.
Enter the Baker Street Irregulars. Introduced by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle in the Holmes novel A Study in Scarlet, this savvy, street-smart team of teens become the great detective’s eyes, ears, and legs. But can these kids really help Holmes stop a mastermind from stealing England’s gold, the good name of her greatest sleuth, and the lives of two of their own?
Sherlock Holmes and the Baker Street Irregulars features a fast-paced story with lots of excitement—thievery, chases, murders, kidnappings—set in gritty riverside alleyways and grand Victorian homes. The witty script also gives Holmes a slightly more modern feel that will appeal to a new generation of viewers.
The film costars Bill Paterson (Miss Potter, Wives and Daughters) as Dr. Watson, Anna Chancellor (MI-5; Four Weddings and a Funeral), Michael Maloney (Babel; Truly Madly Deeply), and six rising young stars as the plucky Irregulars. Written by Richard Kurti and Bev Doyle (Kidnapped, Robin Hood) and based on characters from A Study in Scarlet by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.
DVD SPECIAL FEATURES INCLUDE a bio of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, photo gallery, and cast filmographies.
