Final season of BAFTA award-winning British comedy classic
Series 4 on DVD July 17, 2007
Starring comic genius Leonard Rossiter;
Voted one of the greatest sitcoms in the history of British television
SILVER SPRING, MD; May 21, 2007 —Acorn Media announces the July 17, 2007 DVD debut of Rising Damp, Series 4, the final season of the 1970s British comedy classic likened to All in the Family for its satire of bigotry and well-written, brilliantly acted comedy.
These six episodes brought to a close one of the best British sitcoms ever. Comedy great Leonard Rossiter (The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin) plays Rupert Rigsby, one of the most iconic characters in the history of British television. The miserly, mean-spirited landlord of a run-down boarding house, Rigsby is the U.K.’s Archie Bunker—odious but also endearingly vulnerable. And who could blame Rigsby for lusting after his long-term tenant Miss Jones (Frances de la Tour, The History Boys, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire), who in turn lusts after anything in pants—except Rigsby. With suave university student Philip (Don Warrington) lending his wry commentary on the proceedings, Rigsby gets religion, an unexpected inheritance, and—most astonishingly—a fiancé. Could it possibly be wedding bells for Rigsby and Miss Jones?
Voted one of Britain’s all-time favorite sitcoms in a 2004 poll, Rising Damp ranked ahead of more recent hits like As Time Goes By and Coupling. The BAFTA Award-winning series was a critical and popular success during its four seasons on the U.K.’s ITV network in the 1970s.
