"Finely balanced black comedy"—The Guardian
Silver Spring, MD — Featuring sharp, satirical writing and outstanding supporting casts, the riotous Britcom Reggie Perrin, Set 1 debuts on DVD from Acorn Media on July 19, 2011. Produced by the BBC and broadcast in 2011 on public television, this modern reimagining of the classic British comedy was co-written by the original series creator, David Nobbs (The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin), and Simon Nye, the writer behind Men Behaving Badly. Award-winning actor Martin Clunes (Doc Martin) stars as a bored, frustrated middle manager who might be losing his mind. Set 1 includes the complete Series 1 and 2 and guest stars Fay Ripley (Cold Feet), Geoffrey Whitehead (The Worst Week of My Life), Wendy Craig (Butterflies), Lucy Liemann (Moving Wallpaper), and Neil Stuke (School for Seduction) (DVD 2-Disc Set, 12 episodes, $39.99, www.AcornOline.com).
After ten years as a marketing executive for Groomtech Industries, Reggie Perrin is dangerously alienated and frustrated. His boss doesn’t understand him, and his wife (Fay Ripley) pays too little attention to notice. Reggie is left to find his own distractions wherever he can—on his daily commute, in the office, or at home in the suburbs. More often than not, his flights of fancy land him in hot water. But somehow Reggie always manages to extricate himself before disaster hits, preserving the respectable veneer of a successful city businessman . . . for the moment, at least.
