Silver Spring, MD — The delectable British detective series Pie in the Sky, Series 3 debuts on DVD from Acorn Media on September 7, 2010. Featuring equal amounts police work and culinary adventure, Richard Griffiths (Tony®-winner The History Boys, Equus, Harry Potter films) gives a “brilliantly understated performance” (The Times, U.K.) as Detective Henry Crabbe, a part-time cop, part-time restaurateur whose talent for cooking is only exceeded by his knack for solving crimes. Series 3 guest stars include Michael Kitchen (Foyle’s War), Nigel Terry (Excalibur), and Maurice Denham (The Agatha Christie Hour). Seen on public television, Pie in the Sky debuted on BBC1 in the U.K. in March 1994 and aired for five series. The 2-Disc set includes all six episodes from series three ($39.99, www.AcornOnline.com).
Henry Crabbe continues to balance life as a part-time policeman with his duties as a part-time chef. Having opened a restaurant with his bean-counter wife (Maggie Steed, Shine on Harvey Moon), he hopes his days as a detective are numbered. But the early retirement he craves never seems to come, thanks to the machinations of his self-serving boss, Assistant Chief Constable Fisher (Malcolm Sinclair, Casino Royale), who knows Crabbe is too good a cop to let go. Series 3 Episodes: Money Talks, Game Pie, Irish Stew, Doggett’s Coat and Badge, The Other Eden, and Coddled Eggs
