Silver Spring, MD — Hailed by critics as one of the finest mystery series ever filmed, The Lord Peter Wimsey Mysteries, Set 1 arrives on DVD from Acorn Media on March 30, 2010. Based on the novels by beloved crime writer Dorothy L. Sayers, Ian Carmichael stars as the debonair sleuth Lord Peter Wimsey in these wittily scripted and lavishly produced BBC adaptations. The mysteries ranked with Upstairs, Downstairs as the most successful series on Masterpiece Theatre in the 1970s, and the mysteries were so popular they inspired PBS’s spin-off series Mystery!. Set 1 includes two feature-length mysteries: Clouds of Witness and The Unpleasantness at the Bellona Club (DVD 3-Disc, www.AcornOnline.com, $49.99).
Running at more than three hours each, these dramas do full justice to Sayers’s vivid characters, trenchant wit, and lavish 1920s settings.
THE MYSTERIES
