The legendary physicist and author of the international bestseller A Brief History of Time
Continues his search for the secrets of the universe
Debuts on DVD March 24, 2009
Fascinating documentary makes complex subject matter accessible and entertaining
Silver Spring, MD — Stephen Hawking and the Theory of Everything, a fascinating documentary with the world’s most famous living physicist, debuts on DVD from Acorn Media on March 24, 2009. Aided by clever computer graphics and everyday analogies, Hawking and other noted scientists discuss black holes, the space-time continuum, and new information about the origin of the universe in a captivating, easy-to-understand style. The 2007 documentary explores the revolutionary new ideas that have evolved since the publication of Hawking’s international bestseller, A Brief History of Time, which has sold more than 10 million copies since 1988.
How did the universe come into being? Why are we here? And where are we headed? Stephen Hawking strives to answer those questions. Trying to unify Einstein’s theory of relativity and quantum mechanics, he seeks a single explanation for the entire universe.
Besides interviews, this stimulating documentary uses computer graphics and simple, easy-to-understand demonstrations to explain complex concepts. Topics include black holes, string theory, supersymmetry, dimensions beyond our perception, and the mysterious M force—all potential keys to unlocking the elusive “theory of everything” that seems so tantalizingly close. The show also delves into Hawking’s personal battle with Lou Gehrig’s disease.
Besides Hawking, the documentary features interviews with John Schwarz (California Institute of Technology), Lisa Randall (Harvard), Michio Kaku (City University of New York), and more.
Produced for Channel 4 in the U.K., the show aired in the U.S. in 2008 on Discovery’s Science Channel as Master of the Universe.
