DOC MARTIN
Series 2 Debuts on DVD July 28, 2009

Hit U.K. comedic drama series starring Martin Clunes

Silver Spring, MD — The delightful fish-out-of-water series Doc Martin, Series 2 arrives on home video from Acorn Media on July 28, 2009. Martin Clunes (Shakespeare in Love, Men Behaving Badly, Reggie Perrin) shines in this award-winning comic drama set amid eccentric townsfolk and spectacular scenery. Akin to Northern Exposure and House, Doc Martin is a huge hit in the U.K., with 9 million viewers and a fourth series in production, and airs on PBS stations across the U.S. The 3-volume boxed set includes all eight episodes from Series 2 as well as the feature-length Christmas special ($49.99, www.AcornOnline.com).

As a hotshot London surgeon, Martin Ellingham (Martin Clunes) didn’t need a bedside manner. His patients were unconscious, so he could be as rude and arrogant as he pleased. All that changes when he develops a crippling fear of blood and is forced to give up surgery. He relocates to the sleepy, picturesque seaside village of his youth and immediately offends everyone in town. As the town’s only general practitioner, he eventually earns the grudging respect of the local citizens, but what he really wants are the affections of Louisa Glasson (Caroline Catz, Murder in Suburbia), a beautiful schoolteacher. The second series sees the return of Louisa’s former beau, a development that makes the good doctor even crankier. Doc Martin also stars Ian McNeice (Dune) and Stephanie Cole (Waiting for God).

Doc Martin debuted on ITV in the U.K. in September 2004. Since then, three series have aired and a fourth series begin filming in April 2009. Filmed in the idyllic Cornwall village of Port Isaac, Doc Martin won the 2004 Best TV Comedy Drama at the British Comedy Awards.

Series 2 Episodes: Old Dogs, In Loco, Blood Is Thicker, Aromatherapy, Always on My Mind, The Family Way, Out of the Woods, Erotomania, and a special feature-length Christmas episode, On the Edge
