SILVER SPRING, MD; September 19, 2007 —Acorn Media announces the November 13, 2007 DVD debut of Day One, the historically accurate, 1989 Emmy®-winning drama that tells the story behind the development of the atomic bomb and the fateful decision to use it in WWII.
Focusing on the legendary real-life figures involved in the top-secret Manhattan Project, the CBS Hallmark Hall of Fame classic features David Strathairn (Good Night, and Good Luck; The Bourne Ultimatum), Brian Dennehy (Death of a Salesman), Michael Tucker (L.A. Law), as well as David Ogden Stiers (MASH), Hume Cronyn, Hal Holbrook, and Tony Shalhoub (Monk) in one of his first roles.
Day One portrays the delicate political dance that played out as scientists perfected an unimaginable weapon that could save a half-million American lives—but only by devastating a country about to surrender. Racing against the Nazi war machine and enduring intense military and political pressure, Allied scientists wrestle with the challenge of creating the ultimate weapon. However before the bomb can be perfected, Hitler’s death and Germany’s surrender remove one enemy from the equation. But Japan remains. Day One builds quietly to a shattering climax, as the scientists who developed the bomb out of patriotic fervor witness its grisly consequences.
Gripping, thought-provoking, and complex—based on the acclaimed nonfiction account by Peter Wyden and produced by Aaron Spelling (And the Band Played On)—Day One is the story of the race to save the world.
