Silver Spring, MD —Coming to North American DVD for the first time, Acorn Media announces the January 20, 2009 DVD release of Children of the Stones, a classic sci-fi thriller that tells of paranoia and the paranormal in a sleepy English village. A cult hit of late 1970s British television, this eerie drama has lost none of its powers—to intrigue, entertain, unsettle, and scare.

With shades of Doctor Who, The Watcher in the Woods, and Invasion of the Body Snatchers, the seven-episode series aired on Nickelodeon’s paranormal anthology program The Third Eye in the early 1980s.

All is not as it should be in Milbury, a sleepy English village surrounded by a megalithic stone circle. Astrophysicist Adam Brake (Gareth Thomas, Blake’s 7) and his teenage son, Matthew, arrive to research the standing stones, but they are quickly struck by the uniformly happy townsfolk, who have fallen under the sway of a sinister local scientist (Iain Cuthbertson, Gorillas in the Mist). The complex plot delves into supernatural and scientific phenomena, including black holes, psychic powers, druidic ritual, and a terrifying time trap from which there may be no escape.

An air of menace pervades this sci-fi thriller, enhanced by a haunting, chanted vocal score. Filmed on location at the Avebury stone circle—older than nearby Stonehenge—each episode builds relentlessly to a harrowing climax in what becomes, literally, a race against time.
