Silver Spring, MD — Winner of four British Comedy Awards, A Bit of a Do Complete Collection debuts on DVD from Acorn Media on June 29, 2010. BAFTA winner David Jason (A Touch of Frost, Only Fools and Horses) leads an all-star cast in this riotous satire of British snobbery and class consciousness. Set in a small Yorkshire town where secrets are impossible to keep, it pokes fun at class distinctions while creating genuine, believable characters. Created and written by award-winning novelist and screenwriter David Nobbs (The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin), each episode blends humor and pathos with sharp writing and surprises. Available to U.S. audiences for the first time with its DVD release, the 4-disc set includes all thirteen episodes from the series (www.AcornOnline.com, $59.99).
When a shotgun wedding forces two families together, the stage is set for hilarity and heartache. The working-class Simcocks and middle-class Rodenhursts are from different ends of the social spectrum but equally snobbish. Their fortunes forever linked, they meet at various functions: weddings, a christening, a funeral, and even the crowning of Miss Frozen Chicken (U.K.). Fueled by pride, jealousy, alcohol, and lust, each event (or “do”) is a calamity in the making.
Also starring Nicola Pagett (Upstairs, Downstairs), David Thewlis (Harry Potter, The Boy in the Striped Pajamas), Stephanie Cole (Doc Martin), Gwen Taylor (Barbara), and Michael Jayston (Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy).
A Bit of a Do debuted on ITV in 1989 and ran for two series. It has not aired in the U.S. The series is a winner of four British Comedy Awards including best television series and best actor (David Jason) and a BAFTA nomination for best actress (Gwen Taylor).
Bonus features include: Interviews with star Nicola Pagett and writer/creator David Nobbs (10 min.) and cast filmographies.
