SENIOR SOFTWARE ENGINEER – STREAMING MEDIA

Do you have 3 to 5 years encoding experience?
Do you enjoy troubleshooting unusual online video delivery problems?
Can you optimize Cupertino & Flash streaming to achieve greater end-user satisfaction?


If you can answer to yes to these questions, Acorn Media Group has an excellent opportunity for you in our growing online video business. This position manages architecture, design, implementation, and maintenance of leading edge technology for video streaming, ecommerce sites, on-demand television, and other media platforms.

Passion about delivering high-quality video experiences to end users on a wide range of devices required. You must evaluate encoding and streaming technologies, and clearly communicate pros and cons to non-technical staff. Active tracking of open source projects, encoding forums, and other industry developments necessary.

Responsibilities & requirements include:

  • Development of robust, customer-focused user interfaces & QC for Acorn TV platform;
  • Creation and/or maintenance of websites for ecommerce and other strategic projects;
  • Writing scripts and building tools to quickly triage and fix encoding problems;
  • Generating software solutions that work on a wide range of devices, both mobile and stationary;
  • Bachelor’s degree in IT or related field plus minimum 5 years work experience with website development & coding, streaming applications, or other comparable;
  • Superior analytical skills;
  • Expertise in HTML, Java, and JavaScript coding, plus experience with SQL, AJAX, and other programming languages; and
  • Strong knowledge of networking protocols including HTTP, SSL, and DNS, plus some experience in cloud architecture and usage needed.
Intelligence, curiosity, high EQ, great interpersonal and communication skills, plus a sense of humor are all necessary for success in our environment. Entrepreneurial attitude a plus. VP, MERCHANDISING

Acorn Direct, the B2C direct marketing division of Acorn Media Group, seeks an innovative, upbeat person to oversee all aspects of merchandising for our two catalogs and websites including staff management, merchandise assortment planning, creative design, and merchandise analysis.

Duties and responsibilities include:

  • Oversee the development, execution, and communication of all merchandise strategies to meet financial plans;
  • Continuously improve merchandise assortment to make overall offer more exciting and relevant;
  • Supervise all creative to increase response rates through refreshed offers and looks;
  • Manage and develop all merchandising staff members; and
  • Plan assortments and analyze sales results to inform future decision-making at both strategic and merchandising levels.
Ideal candidate has:
  • Bachelor’s degree in retail merchandising or related/comparable experience;
  • Minimum 10 years catalog merchandise buying;
  • Minimum 7 years management experience and is an enthusiastic leader;
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills and high EQ;
  • Passionate about understanding why a product is or is not successful through analysis; and
  • Interest in British TV, documentaries, and/or fitness beneficial.
